Q: I’ve always wanted to play piano/guitar, but I’m concerned about my age. How long will it take before I can really play the way I want to? How old will I be?
A: It will take the same amount of time that it will take if you don’t learn, and you will be the same age you’ll be if you don’t try. Time will pass either way. In one direction, you learn to get in touch with a whole new part of yourself, in the other direction, you live with a regret. It’s not always this simple, as many adults are balancing lots of responsibilities. But let’s face it, you only go around once. Give yourself a little credit and have a little faith, you never know where it might take you. Music is a wonderful gift, and it lasts for a lifetime. It’s truly never too late to start.
That said, it is well documented that learning piano as an adult is major undertaking. If you are on the fence, it is usually better to start with the guitar.
